Local reporters rebelled against the mandate that a media tour be off the record.

Kerrigan also announced that the convention program will be cut from four days to three. The new format allows for a day to “organize and celebrate the Carolinas, Virginia and the South and kick off the convention at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Labor Day.”

At the time, the Park estimated that blacks made up just one percent of its 280 million tourists. Sadly, I doubt their highly-publicized escapade dramatically increased the number of black campers.
