Well, Hakeem Nicks, a Charlottean and UNC Tarheel, is playing for them.  I don’t have a professional team, but I definitely support my Tarheels near and far.

Recently Jarvis Gree, former Patriots defensive lineman, shared is thoughts on the big game, remembering playing against the Giants in the Super Bowl like it was yesterday.

In the 2007 Super Bowl, quarterback Eli Manning managed to escape the grasp of Green and completed a pass to David Tyree that would later result in a winning score. The end result was a 17-14 loss for the Patriots to the Giants.

Green couldn’t sleep for weeks because of that play and would sometimes wake up in cold sweats. Today, he’s still wide awake to watch the rematch of the Giants and the Patriots, hoping for redemption.

NewsOne: What are the differences between the team today and what are their chances?

Jarvis Green: There are seven guys from the ’07 year that are still there now, and they are a very important part of the chemistry of the team. Of course, they’re also older players.

I think what’s different is that we have a really strong defense compared to then, so that’s the biggest thing. [The Giants have] an Eli Manning. He had a helluva game in ’07, but he’s playing probably the best football of his career this year, so that makes a difference.

I think the front seven this year is better than the front seven we had in ’07. They got a good line. I think the biggest thing for this upcoming game is they get rid of the ball and make some big plays.

NewsOne: What do you think the Patriots need to look out for?

JG: I think the pass rush and watching them dive on second and third down, because the Giants have plenty of good cornerbacks. Also, they have to make sure that Gronkowski, the big tight end, doesn’t get jammed, if he gets jammed, the game is over.

NewsOne: What do you think the Giants should look out for?

JG: They need to look out for their tight end, make sure not to allow [quarterback] Tom Brady to get hot, and also I think the sleeper of the game are the running backs. If the Giants rush the way they rush the middle, it’s going to be pretty much wide open for them to get in there and have a power running attack.

NewsOne: Do you think the momentum is that much stronger because of the momentum from 2007?

JG: I think so. I remember I talked with one of my friends that owns a restaurant at the stadium and she said the pep rally had 25,000 people in the stands. I said that was probably the biggest crowd ever. I think it’s gonna something different.

NewsOne: What’s your prediction?

JG: I gotta say that with these two teams, it’s not gonna be a blowout. It’s gonna be a helluva game all the way down to the wire.

NewsOne: Talk about that 2007 game. What were some of the major mistakes for the Patriots?
JG: The major mistake was that the Giants got to Brady a lot. He played the game on his back. We had a lot of momentum changes in the game. We played them all the way through the entire game until that last drive—I think that changed my life. After that game I didn’t sleep at all, because I kept replaying that play.

NewsOne: Do you think there’s more momentum for the Patriots or are people rooting for the Giants?

JG: I know when I played, people loved to hate us because they thought we were too successful. It’s sad because the Giants beat the Patriots this year, but who is the underdog for this Super Bowl? The best team is gonna win. That’s all I can say.

There are certain things in a relationship that you might be able to say that without proper training you might be lost.  I might give it to you if you said you didn’t know how to be a provider. You were unsure about how to keep the flame going in the relationship or how to love as God ordered in the Bible. Fidelity and honesty are the basics. You go into relationships understanding that those are requirements for a successful relationship.

His excuse reminds me of one of my favorite poems:

As P. Diddy says in the intro to the album, My Life is a classic album.  You can pop it in at any time and be blessed.  It would be hard to follow that formula and many critics, including my 20-year-old sister, believed Mary was setting herself up for bad reviews by naming the current album My Life II. Undoubtedly people were going to compare the new My Life to the original, and as much as I can appreciate Mary saying My Life II wasn’t a competitor to My Life (she says in the intro that its a sequel and extension of My Life), it is still a part of the My Life brand. As such, her fans expected songs with a soul, great production and songs that would stand the test of time.

After giving the album a full listen, I don’t think we got that.  Here’s why:

• There are too may guest appearances from right now hip-hop artists. I love a great collabo and I love Lil Wayne, Drake, and Rick Ross, but I believe they are hot artists right  now with little classic appeal.  These collabos were used to support record sales of a younger hip hop audience.  As a former publicist for a well-known R&B and soul artist I understand the marketing math, but I believe their presence takes away from the classic appeal.  I also believe it alienates Mary fans who were looking for another classic My Life album … you know the kind that relies only on Mary, her soul singing, strong lyrics, storytelling and great production to sale records.
• Some collabos that weren’t needed. In my humble but expert opinion, I believe collaborations should enhance songs.  I believe that many of the collabos on the album weren’t needed – Beyonce, Busta, Nas.  Having these artists on the song didn’t add any value in my opinion.
• The production and soul of many of the songs just isn’t there. You can put on any song from the original My Life album and you can FEEL what Mary is singing about in the song. There are only a few songs on the new album that have a soul.  This dilutes the My Life brand, which is built on the soul of the songs.

I will always support Mary and I think this would have been a great album by any other name, but as a sequel to My Life this album sucks!

Conclusion:  I do love the album … just not as a representation of the My Life brand.

Let’s see, there are at least five beefs going on between the ladies. There is the Emily and Kimbella. The Olivia and Somaya beef. Then we have Chrissy who is beefing with just about everyone – Yandy, Kimbella and Momma Jones.

Ladies, are you serious? It’s time out for all this fighting between black women! I can  see how tempers could flare and feelings could be hurt in several of the quarrels – with the exception of Olivia and Somaya … Liv is just a hater.  But really, these ladies are too old to be resorting to throwing punches.  That’s classless and so very unladylike.  Only kids throw punches and call names when they are angry.  And if we are keeping it a hunned, anger is a secondary emotion that is used to cover up pain and hurt.  We are taught to never let anyone know they hurt you so we turn to anger, but in reality, the best way to deal with hurt is to acknowledge it and let the person know that you are hurt.

Putting the psychology away for a minute, I believe that black women should learn to respect one another and stop being so catty.  The drama makes for great reality television , but that is about the only good that comes from it.

Sidenote: To my point about good reality television … Em got it in with that toast to Kimbella. I couldn’t do anything but put a check mark in Em’s box for her comment about Kimbella being most qualified for the cover of Black Men’s Magazine … you know because she has had the most black men IN her. *jaw drops*

But seriously, I just can’t take the hate between black women. I get it Em … I do, but baby … that man did it to you, not her. Please ladies, let’s stop the madness. When you intentionally disrespect another woman you do everyone wrong. Today, let’s learn to deal with our real emotions (stop using anger to cover up hurt) and learn to forgive. You don’t have to be besties with these other women, but stop disrespecting each other. Have more integrity than that.

Oh yeah, Chrissy, stop being a bully and Olivia get a life! You really aren’t on the same level as Somaya – she got you beat just because she is not filled with HATE!

• Only stay on a workout regimen for 6 weeks.  After 6 weeks, you will need to change your workout routine so that your weightloss doesn’t reach plateau. Continue to challenge your body consistently so you can see maximum results!

Here’s how: Standing in a sitting position, feet hip-width apart, with your back against a wall, holding a 5lb. medicine ball or a 5lb. weight in your hands with arms long and out in front of your chest. Keeping your hips steady, twist to the left without the ball barely touching the wall. Return to the center, then twist to the right. Alternating this move left to right at a slow and controlled pace for 20reps, 2/3 sets.
• Incorporate 30 to 45 min. of cardio in your workout.
